Orthodontics

Orthodontics comes from the Greek "orthos" (to straighten) and "dontos" (teeth). The specialty deals with tooth positioning and the supervision of dento-facial development.

Orthodontics is a distinct specialty of dental medicine, focused on aligning the teeth and adjusting the occlusion (bite).

This specialty is addressed to patients starting at the age of 6.

Removable braces are used in children with mild dental crowding. Fixed braces are typically used after the eruption of all permanent teeth, around 11–12 years of age.

Recently, braces have become something of a trend, but this is a medical procedure. A clinic visit and an orthodontic consultation are required.
